Stop Global Warming While Saving Money: Solar Panels and Wind Turbines
Unless you have been hiding under a rock the last couple of years, you must have heard of the global warming. This is now regarded as a very serious threat to the future of the world as we know it. The issue has to do with the vast quantities of coal and oil that our civilised world is burning up each day, and which is raising the level of carbon dioxide in the air.
You may wonder if there is anything you can do against this threat. And yes, you can do plenty of things. The idea is to phase out the use of fossil fuels like coal and oil, and replace them with energy from renewable sources. Let us discuss a simple example here.
What about the electricity you use in your home, where does it come from? This may vary a lot depending on where you live, but often electric power is generated in large coal-fired power plants.
Suppose you could get at least some of your electricity by directly harvesting the sun’s energy? You have probably heard of solar panels, and nowadays you can actually get solar panels for home use.
There are several advantages to solar panels for home use. Do you like having to pay that utility bill? Probably not. By installing home solar panels, you gain some degree of independence from the power grid.
“Is it expensive?” you may ask. Well, installing solar systems is always a sizeable investment. But remember that the energy is then free!
Besides, you can get fairly cheap solar panels by assembling them yourself. It is possible to save a great deal of money that way, by being a do-it-yourself person.
You may also build a domestic wind turbine yourself for little money, which then gives you free electic power from the wind. Indeed, there are many things you can do here and now, which will benefit both you and the environment.
Also think about it this way: Most people don’t mind paying a lot of money upfront for a house. They look forward to the freedom of owning your own home, and they know that the cost of upkeep will be very low compared to renting a property.
The same reasoning goes for an investment in solar power or wind energy. The initial cost may be higher than you would prefer it to be, but in the long run you save money while saving the environment.
